Aramid - tear-resistant and cut-resistant or temperature-resistant
In the production of our Products we consistently focus on quality and performance - and that begins with the selection of the right Yarnsbecause selecting the right yarn material is a decisive factor for the performance and durability of technical textiles such as our rubber ropes. One of the four specialised yarn types that we primarily use is aramid.
Aramid is lightweight and durable and is characterised by its extreme tear and cut resistance or its temperature and flame resistance, depending on which type of aramid is used. We mainly use the two main types Meta-Aramid and Para-aramid. These differ in their molecular structureswhich is the reason for the different properties.
Properties and advantages of meta- and para-aramid
Meta-Aramid
Para-aramid
Excellent heat and flame resistance: does not melt, self-extinguishing
moderate tensile strength
High flexibility and stretch
Very good chemical resistance - especially to many acids
Good abrasion and light stability
flame retardant
does not melt
retains its shape even at high temperatures
Excellent impact strength - up to 7x stronger than steel with the same weight
Very high tensile strength
Low elongation, very stiff
Good chemical resistance
Excellent abrasion and wear resistance
Good temperature resistance
Both species are also characterised by the following common properties:
Low weight
insulating
Limited UV resistance - may yellow or lose strength due to exposure to sunlight
Low moisture absorption -
difficult to dye - due to the dense molecular structure
Aramide offers many advantageous properties when used as a braiding material, which are ideal for many applications. Meta-aramids are primarily used when protection against penetration is relevant. Para-aramids, on the other hand, are preferred when protection against heat and flames is required.
But you don't have to stick with just one yarn for your elastic cord: the combination of of different yarns by means of double braidingthe properties of different yarn materials can be combined with each other.
An overview of our rubber types When developing and manufacturing our high-quality rubber ropes, the choice of elastomer material plays a key role in function, durability and performance. Depending on the technical requirements, such as weather resistance, elasticity, temperature tolerance or dynamic behaviour, environmental conditions (e.g. ozone exposure or oils), we use different types of rubber and material-related elastomer concepts. The following [...]
Hello, I'm Felix Brosig from Year 9 at the Waldorf School in Haan-Gruiten and I was at the so-called WOW-Day at the rubber rope company Andreas Neumann GmbH. WOW-Day (Waldorf-One-World) takes place once a year. On this day, all pupils from the 5th grade onwards have a day off, but work in a company of their choice. The money that the [...]
